Citra – Hop History – Beer

First crossed in 1990 from parentage including Mittelfruh, East Kent Goldings and Tettnang Citra was commercially released in 2007 by the Hop Breeding Company of Yakima.

Best used as a late and/or dry hop, tropical fruit flavours abound, typically displaying grapefruit, mango and peach.

Citra is now the mostly widely grown variety in the US having 20% of total acreage in the Pacific Northwest from the 2022 harvest.

Resistant to downy and powdery mildew, as well as verticillium wilt.

Citra – hops are known for their tropical fruit, citrusy, and floral aromas. They are great for brewing IPAs, Pale Ales, and other heavy hopped beer styles.
